Q287: There are a lot of beggars in the town centre and I find them intimidating, can the police help?

It is an offence to beg in a public place and the beggar can be arrested for committing such an offence. If you find them intimidating the best thing to do is to avoid the area where they are, cross the road or walk briskly past and if you see a police officer or a community support officer in the vicinity inform them or alternatively telephone your local police (via 101) giving a description and location of the "beggar".
