Q1025: I have been contacted by the NHS Test and Trace Service. How do I know if it's a scam or not? Are there any other coronavirus related scams?
The NHS Test and Trace Service works by asking individuals who have tested positive for Coronavirus to share details of others they have been in contact with who could have caught Coronavirus from them, and then asks those people to self-isolate for 14 days.
If you take a Coronavirus test and test positive, the service will contact you within 72 hours. If you have not taken the test and you receive something saying you have tested positive then this is obviously a scam.
If you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive and they have notified the NHS of your details, then the NHS will contact you asking you to self isolate.
Genuine texts, calls or emails from the NHS service won't ask you for any personal details upfront.
Calls and texts will only come from one verified NHS number: 0300 013 5000.
