Diversity

Answer

Diversity is the appreciation that not all people are the same and different people will have different skills, experiences and knowledge.

Equality is ensuring each person is treated fairly and given the same opportunities, regardless of their differences. People face discrimination for a number of reasons, the Equality Act 2010 now protects these characteristics. These characteristics are:

  • Age,
  • Disability,
  • Gender Reassignment,
  • Marriage and Civil Partnership,
  • Pregnancy and Maternity,
  • Race,
  • Religion and Belief,
  • Sex
  • Sexual Orientation.

Understanding equality and diversity has a direct influence on the quality of service we are able to provide to the public.
