SOCO

Answer

An officer will carry out initial enquiries about the incident, take a statement and record details of stolen property.

After police officers have taken the initial report, they will review your incident for opportunities to collect fingerprints, obtain any other forensic evidence and view any digital recording opportunities. Scenes of crime officers (SOCO) may attend to examine your house and it is therefore important that you do not touch anywhere that you believe the suspect has touched.

We appreciate that being burgled is a very upsetting experience and that you may want to tidy up as soon as possible. However, it is vital that all available evidence at the scene is obtained. Please leave any areas where the suspect may have been alone until SOCO has had chance to attend.
